French national arrested after cocaine sachets found at Phuket airport

A 46-year-old French man was arrested after 10 sachets of cocaine were found at on the floor at Phuket International Airport.
Airport security officials notified police at 11pm on Thursday about the discovery of 10 sachets of drugs on the floor at the domestic departure baggage screening area of the airport.
The owner of the drugs was identified as Najib Aftat, 46, a French national. Police examined footage of CCTV, which showed the sachets falling from the suspect’s trousers while he was in the screening area.
The drugs weighed a total of 7.55 grammes.
During questioning, Mr Aftat admitted the cocaine belonged to him.
Further interrogation led officers to the suspect’s apartment, where he admitted more drugs were being kept. Searches found more illicit drugs.
Mr Aftat was charged with possession of narcotics for sale and consumption in violation of the law.
