A fire destroyed 28 stalls at Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok on Monday night - the second fire in just a few days.

Police said the fire was near Gate 1 and was first reported about 10.24pm.

Ten fire engines and crews were sent to the scene, backed by police and volunteers.

They battled the flames for about 30 minutes before declaring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

The 28 burned-out stalls cover about 240 square metres along three streets at Market Project 17, Soi 9/2–4.

An initial assessment pointed to the fire being caused by a short circuit.

It was the second recent fire at the market. On Saturday, a small blaze caused by an electrical short circuit damaged security cameras. Guards put it out before it could spread.
