Snoopy turns 75

River City Bangkok, in association with ChaTraMue, is hosting “How Do You Do, Snoopy? 75 Years: A Journey Of Friendship Through Art”, an exhibition to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the iconic American cartoon strip, Peanuts. It runs until Dec 7 at RCB Galleria, River City Bangkok, with tickets available from Ticketmelon, Eventpass and Eventpop.

Beloved worldwide, Snoopy and his friends are brought to life through four immersive zones, namely Art, Culture, Fashion and Entertainment. You may think you already know the gang well, but think again.

In the "Art Of Peanuts", step into a showcase of more than 50 original Peanuts works, presented through an Asian perspective that highlights zen philosophy and refined beauty. The exhibition weaves Charles M. Schulz’s iconic lines into the aesthetics of Eastern art forms such as Chinese ink painting and traditional Japanese woodblock printing (ukiyo-e). Visitors can also explore “Peanuts: Private Doll Collection (Thailand Edition)”, a one-of-a-kind display featuring 149 treasured collectibles from Thai fans, handpicked to be part of the exhibition. It is the first time Peanuts has invited local fans to take part in shaping an exhibition.

"Snoopy In Art" showcases the works by more than 25 renowned artists from Thailand and beyond. Each artist has come together to create original pieces inspired by Snoopy, expressed through different mediums — painting, sculpture, animation and more. The zone is co-curated with Yuling Wang, general manager of Blue Dragon Art Company, who helped shape the exhibition’s unique presentation. River City Bangkok curated the works of 10 selected Thai artists, each reimagining Snoopy in their own signature style. The participating Thai artists are Fahfahs, Tum Ulit, Tuagomstudio, Juliebaker And Summer, Mackcha, 2choey, Yamada, Poorboy and Kenz.

"Snoopy And Belle In Fashion" celebrates Peanuts' ties to fashion through the beagle siblings. First unveiled in Paris in March, the zone features couture outfits by global fashion houses, including Balenciaga, Fendi, Swarovski and Thierry Mugler, all who have created exclusive designs for Snoopy and Belle, transforming them from comic strip characters into icons on the international fashion stage.

Join the beagle on his space adventures at "Snoopy In Space", which features exclusive animations and artistic reinterpretations of Snoopy as an astronaut by Thai artist Tuagomstudio, Japanese artist Ahhi Choi and Taiwanese artist Ren Shen Er.

Moreover, celebrate Peanuts online with Line stickers designed by five Thai artists; Fahfahs, Tum Ulit, Juli Baker And Summer, Tuagomstudio and Munins. Search River City Bangkok in the sticker shop and buy away. Starlux Airlines also invites all Peanuts fans to take part in “Peanuts Passport: A Journey With Starlux Vol.2”, until Oct 6 for a chance to win a trip to Taipei. Four prizes of round-trip economy class tickets from Bangkok to Taipei (two seats per prize) are up for grabs. Winners will travel aboard the Snoopy-themed aircraft, specially designed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Peanuts.

While the main exhibition is a ticketed event, Snoopy fans can join in the celebration for free in several ways.

First, find Snoopy mega balloon displays at various landmarks in Bangkok. At the historic Grand Postal Building in Bang Rak, visitors will be greeted by Snoopy reimagined in the signature style of Mackcha. At Pathumwan Skywalk, enjoy charming balloon designs created by Fahfahs and Munins. These Snoopies will be on free public display until Sept 30. The other Snoopy, rendered in the style of Tuagomstudio, can be found at Pier 1 Terrace, River City Bangkok, until Dec 7.

Second, stop by at MRT Phahon Yothin's Metro Art to enjoy a special installation featuring two interactive zones until Oct 15. We've already posted some pictures from there here. Step into a set inspired by the Chao Phraya River and the city’s iconic landmarks, rendered in Peanuts style. Visitors of all ages can dive into a ball pit, which represents the water, for a playful experience. In the other zone, wish the beagle HBD by writing your heartfelt wishes on a postcard, drop it into a real mailbox and enjoy decorations inspired by the whimsical world of Peanuts.
