Six new releases that hit cinemas in Thailand this week.

Devil Black Cat

Directed by Anusorn Thanomrod.

Who’s in it?

Anna Glucks, Indy Intad, Bible Wichapas and Nutanee Sittisaman.

What’s it about? 

The film centres on a group searching for a friend who disappeared three years prior in a village cursed by black cats. 

Why watch it?

Back cats can be agents of evil. 

O Agente Secreto (The Secret Agent)

Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho.

Who’s in it?

Robson Andrade, Rubens Santos and Licínio Januário.

What’s it about? 

In 1977, a technology expert flees from a mysterious past and returns to his hometown of Recife in search of peace. He soon realises that the city is far from being the refuge he seeks.

Why watch it? 

This was Udo Kier's final film role. He had previously worked with the director on Bacurau and returned to Brazil for a one-week stay in Recife to shoot his scene in a single intense day. Kier said he only accepts non-lead roles if they leave a strong impression on the audience, which is why he chose to take the part of Hans.

Shelter

Directed by Ric Roman Waugh.

Who’s in it?

Jason Statham, Harriet Walter and Bill Nighy.

What’s it about? 

A recluse on a remote Scottish island rescues a girl from the sea, unleashing a perilous sequence of events that culminate in an attack on his home, compelling him to face his turbulent history.

Why watch it? 

Scenes were shot in Wicklow, Ireland in early 2025.

Sappaleehuan

Directed by Ekachai Srivichai.

Who’s in it? 

Singha Sitthinon Rochanametakul, Ben Chalatit Tantiwut, Nongpanee Mahadthai and Jazz Chuanchuen. 

What’s it about?

A fourth-year university student was stressed about finding a play for his graduation project because no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t come up with any ideas. Then he remembered the story Sappaleehuan, so he decided to adapt it for his stage performance, as he was from the South and very familiar with the tale.

Why watch it? 

A truly authentic Southern Thai comedy.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

Directed by Nia DaCosta.

Who’s in it? 

Jack O’Connell, Ralph Fiennes and Emma Laird.

What’s it about? 

As Spike is inducted into Jimmy Crystal's gang on the mainland, Dr. Kelson makes a discovery that could alter the world.

Why watch it?

The voiceover in the trailer is the writer and futurist Arthur C Clarke, taken from his appearance on the BBC “Horizon” programme on Sept 21, 1964.

Ni wa wa (Mudborn)

Directed by Meng-Ju Shieh.

Who’s in it?

Yo Yang, Cecilia Choi and Derek Chang.

What’s it about? 

A video-game designer's will is tested when a mysterious spirit infiltrates his new family and threatens the life of his expecting wife.

Why watch it?

A supernatural horror.
