Thai women shine

Re: "Redefining success, inspiring change", "Bringing hostages home", & "Mental resilience", (BP, March 10).

The Bangkok Post's lauding of 13 exceptional Thai women was most appropriate and highlighted credits where they were due.

It lauded Khun Pannabha Chandraramya, formerly the Thai ambassador to Israel, for coordinating assistance in returning Thai hostages from the Hamas-Israel conflict to their homeland. She appeared in news clips, and we all saw a lady so devoted to her tasks.

The golfer, Khun Atthaya Thitikul, was also a good choice, being well and impressively dressed and humble when sinking the last hole. It makes one proud to be a Thai. They all contribute to Thailand's soft power.

Cricketing bias

Re: "Dubai double! India rule the world again", (Sport, March 11).

A report by British news agency Reuters proves that a sense of colonial rule and fake superiority is still present. The entire report focused on downgrading India's supremacy in world cricket. It is important to mention how England lost to the war-torn country Afghanistan in this World Cup and how England lost to India without a fight.

The Bangkok Post should allow professional cricket analysts to analyse how the game was played -- how India dominated technically on the field with a high level of professionalism -- so young cricketers can learn.

Trump's aid stance

Re: "Tax the rich", (PostBag, March 11).

Felix Qui imagines that by increasing taxation rates, the US will be able to pay down the national debt. Unfortunately, that is not how the financial system works. He also suggests that his liberal sensibilities will be soothed by making the rich pay more. Thus, he hopes to no longer boo-hoo about President Donald Trump "putting piddling money bags over human lives" and being "cruel and selfish".

Mr Trump is responsible for the lives and welfare of US citizens. Period. Pausing USAID payouts while DOGE can eliminate fraud and waste benefits US citizens. Mr Trump has said many times that when effective and efficient aid programs are identified, they will resume. What liberals need to understand is that Mr Trump is an example of the health of the US form of republican democracy in action, and stop crying about it.

Phuket's safety gaps

Re: "Phuket needs new growth strategy", (BP, March 4).

Phuket remains a golden goose that provides Thailand with revenue, but the town needs more transport infrastructure. There have been reports and floated ideas about mass transit.

Meanwhile, modern roads have been enlarged, as have more tunnels. Yet, what has been lacking is flyovers for pedestrians to cross roads safely. Indeed, flyovers are much more important for managing traffic and vehicles and enhancing safety.
