Slanted cartoons

During Donald Trump's first term, the Biden years, and the pre-2024 election run-in, the average Trump media coverage recorded by most media outlets was 93% negative.

Given that Mr Trump won a resounding victory in November and clearly earned the trust and support of most US voters, one would have thought that the media coverage would have at least started to reflect that.

But no, the same outlets, of which your publication is one, continue the very same anti-Trump reporting through news articles, op-eds, and cartoons. Your cartoonist, Matt Davies, is perhaps the worst victim of Trump (and all who surround him) Derangement Syndrome. His sketches are not funny, not representative of any balance, reality, or context, and on an artistic level, very poor. He really is the worst I've seen, and that very choice clearly demonstrates the Post's totally biased coverage.

Quake survival tips

Re: "Local death count from Friday's tremor rises to 18", (BP, March 31).

During last week's earthquake, almost everybody inside ran outdoors, as if fleeing a fire. This was wrong. Unlike a fire, most quake damage is done by falling objects. So, the US Geological Service and Federal Emergency Management Agency recommends:

"(a) If you are indoors, stay indoors: Do not run outside during the shaking. Drop, Cover, and Hold On: Get under sturdy furniture, such as a desk or table, and hold on until the shaking stops. If no shelter is available, move into a hallway or against an inside wall, protecting your head and neck with your arms. Avoid hazardous areas: Stay clear of windows, heavy furniture or appliances that could fall.

"(b) If you are in bed: Protect yourself: Turn onto your stomach and cover your head and neck with a pillow to shield against falling debris.

"(c) If you are outdoors: Move to an open area: Stay away from buildings, power lines, etc. that might fall on you.

"After the shaking stops, assess safety before evacuating: Once the earthquake ends, check for injuries and damage. If the building is structurally sound and there are no immediate hazards like gas leaks or fires, it may be safer to remain indoors. If evacuation is necessary, use stairs instead of elevators."

Many Thais will say that our rampant corruption means that our building standards would not be followed, and US recommendations are invalid for us. But last week's quake of 7.7 was equal to 334 atomic bombs, and only one Bangkok skyscraper collapsed. Next time, stay inside. Drop, cover, and hold on.

Fair treatment?

Re: " Kannavee sticks by Uyghur letters claim", (Editorial, March 5).

I was more than a little amused at the simple distortion and twisting of historical facts in this morning's letter regarding the Uyghur returnees. When the large group was first discovered in 2015, the women and children, in total 173 people, were treated as refugees and sent on to Turkey. For reasons never explained, 109 men were escorted back to China just a week later, showing Thailand's reluctance to offer fair treatment for all. Even worse, a third group, which, as far as I understand, were never convicted and sentenced for any crime, were then kept in indefinite detention for 11 years. Three groups, three completely different treatments for the same "crime" of fleeing repression. So, who was treated correctly?
