A word for restraint
Re: "Sin or joy?", "Let's party on" & "Price of hedonism", (PostBag, Aug 1, 11, 16).
I wonder if Ray Ban and Felix Qui grasp that their enthusiastic support of the euphemistically termed "hedonism" could facilitate the possible spread of sexually transmitted diseases through multiple contacts among various partners?
On this subject, I am mercifully ignorant, but one doubts whether protection is an issue during such activities, likely fueled by booze, etc.
I think Mr Jellison deserves credit for his more conservative views.

AI can fix this
Re: "TV match meltdown", (PostBag, Aug 20).
I would like to add my voice to Miro King's complaint about the Saturday football streaming. I, too, suffered the same fate. My take on it is that there are too many would-be viewers and not enough bandwidth from the suppliers.
I am with 3BB and have emailed their helpline. With assistance from AI, I now write all my emails in English and Thai. English only results in total ignorance; either no response or a misunderstanding of what my complaint/request is all about. Despite my efforts, I have had no response from 3BB.
Likewise, I have had next to no help from Boots Head Office about another problem. Eventually, I took my 55,000-baht business elsewhere, a small shop, the only one of three companies that deigned to respond.
With free AI, it should be simple to understand the problem and compose a respectable response. I read daily about the daily downward spiral of Thai businesses; perhaps more use of AI would halt this.

Web banking fiasco
Re: "Bangkok Bank tightens account rules for some foreigners", (Business, May 28).
It is regrettable that Bangkok Bank has stopped accepting new applications for internet banking from July 7, while local branches themselves are unaware of this policy. Yesterday, branch officials issued me an internet banking number and a password reset, but when I tried to log in, the message clearly stated that new applications were discontinued from July 7.
I spent thousands of baht preparing documents for this application, which has now gone to waste. Without internet banking, even simple facilities like direct debit through Western Union cannot be executed.
Most international banks provide internet banking as a basic service. It is strange that Bangkok Bank, the biggest bank in Thailand, has withdrawn such an essential facility. The sooner they reinstate the service, the better for customers.

PM digs in
Re: "Paetongtarn arrives to face court", (BP, Aug 21).
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's court presence confirms that she is determined to fight the case to dismiss her from office.
Ms Paetongtarn could get off the hook for the reason that she did not talk to her counterpart in Cambodia, but to his father whom she addressed as an uncle, which could be construed as a private call.
The phone conversation did not cause any damage at that time. Nor did it spark the war that came later.
Ms Paetongtarn's return to office could bring stability to the political scene, especially with her father likely to fly back to Dubai sometime soon.
