New debate format

Re: "Academics sound alarm ahead of poll", (BP, Jan 14). A one-on-one debate format between political parties would greatly help us decide who we want to solve basic structural problems in our economy, society and justice system -- and the media should play a key role in arranging such a debate and setting the theme.

Each debater will focus on exposing specific shortcomings of their opponent's plans while highlighting their own points, enabling viewers to know the pros and cons of their ideas.

For example, in telecommunications, what specific market share level may trigger an anti-monopoly investigation, and how specifically will our duopoly be broken up? The media should stream the debates live on FB and make them also available on YouTube.

Re: "Peace Board price tag", (Editorial, Jan 21).

What is Donald Trump's "Board of Peace" supposed to be? Is it a new UN, an extended EU or some version of Nato for the Mideast? These are all well-established, generally do great work and are credible. Will countries that don't join recognise its authority?

The Board of Peace seems like it will be run by an individual, Mr Trump, ruling over the countries that decide to join and rather than final agreements by the group, he will have the right of veto. The approach of three years free, then pay an expensive fee, sounds like a typical gym or streaming service where you get free access for a while and then the costs appear.

Will there be a new world order, those who follow and obey Mr Trump and all of those who see the scam for what it is? Will your country get caught up in this? Speak out to stop your leaders from losing the plot.

In a time of deceit

Re: "Israel's Netanyahu accepts invite to join 'Board of Peace'" & "Erdogan discusses Syria and Gaza in call with US", (World, Jan 22).

I have difficulty getting my head around the latest news that two of the world's biggest ogres, responsible for the slaughter of tens of thousands of mostly innocent people, are being invited to join the new "Board of Peace".

As such, this directorate will uncannily evoke George Orwell's Ministry of Peace that manages perpetual war for maintaining social order and consuming surplus production.

The clocks will be striking 13 next.

Race to the bottom

Re: "Police put to the test", (BP, Dec 29).

Oh, what a sorry state we are in. It looks as if Thailand is in a race with the US to provide the most stories describing the disgusting mess the state is in.

Police officers profiting from illegal gambling, anti-graft agency members on the take, construction firms providing endless death and destruction, boat, truck and bus drivers crashing their craft, the financial systems traders doing the dirty, Kamnan Nok with numerous politicians in his pay, the money laundering of scammers reaching high up the pyramid and all while the skies turn grey.

Day after day, we are treated to yet another scandal highlighting the depths to which officials and the elite have fallen in their love of personal wealth and their abandonment of all morals and decency.
