Smashing!
Re: "Smashing Gauff gone in 59 minutes", (Sports, Jan 28).
Coco Gauff, ranked number three in the world, is upset that her smashing up a racquet after her loss was captured on camera and then broadcast.
Is she being childish about being childish?
There are millions of children who would like to play tennis but can't, given the cost of a racquet, and would be delighted to get one of her castoffs, although not the one we saw.
There are a few who smash racquets, and they should be stopped.
All sports should treat equivalent offenders the same: send them home. If I did the same, I would also expect to be spanked, but that's old-fashioned thinking, although it worked, as I still have my racquet from the 1970s.

Colombo contrast
Re: "New Year DUI cases drop sharply", (BP, Jan 7).
I have recently spent a few days in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
I was taken aback by the huge volume of traffic, especially tuk-tuks, around the capital, Colombo.
It is difficult for pedestrians to cross the road.
However, every single motorcyclist wears a helmet.
Therefore, I wonder, if motorcycle riders in Sri Lanka obey traffic safety laws, why can't riders in Thailand?

Nato in peril
Re: "Who is next for the US", (BP, Jan 12).
One wonders what went through US President Donald Trump's mind when he came up with his "stroke of genius" to not rule out an invasion of Greenland, of all places.
One should reflect upon the words of Danish leader Mette Frederiksen.
"If the US decides to attack another Nato country, then everything would stop... That includes Nato and post-WWII security," Mr Frederiksen said earlier this month.
The peaceful world order which has lasted for over 75 years would be shattered in the stroke of a day.
