Save women's sport

Re: "Women's sport limited to 'biological females'", (Sport, March 28).

It is about time that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) banned men from women's sports.

Therefore, the IOC should also strip the two boxers, Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting, who are both men, of their gold medals in boxing.

Those two men pulverised their female opposition to pulp, and it was painful not only for the victims but for all who watched it in horror.

I would like to see the members of the IOC who allowed this slaughter of the innocents to stand in that ring and face either of those brutal impostors. They would soon change their minds about who is a man and who is a woman.

Ban all men, especially the female impostors, from all women's sport.

Fix the power mix

Re: "Iran war exposes Thai energy fragility", (Opinion, March 28).

The fossil fuels used for power generation in 2024 accounted for more than 70%, with imports accounting for the rest. Renewable energy mostly relies on solar power, which is, by nature, unreliable and only produces for six hours per day.

Considering the paradigm changes following the Middle East war, we should consider adopting the clean, green and cheap nuclear power plants as a new way of electricity production.

ATM cash grab

Re: "Court long stayers", (PostBag, March 28).

I've lived in Thailand for many years now, but still occasionally use a foreign bank card for an ATM withdrawal. Imagine my horror to find out that the already-unreasonable ATM use fee is now a whopping 350 baht per transaction at most bank ATMs!

I was of the opinion it was high but justifiable at 220, then a cash grab at 250, and now pure corporate profiteering and greed. Yet another way Thailand abuses their tourism cash cow. It seems so short-sighted to me.

For some context, it places Thailand at the very top of operator fees for ATM cash withdrawals globally. In most countries, fees are low (40 baht in Japan, below 100 baht in most developed economies).

Sure, 350 baht isn't a great deal of money in terms of a holiday, but it will be one of the things people remember about their trip, being extorted by ATMs. Soft power indeed.

Bully backlash

Re: "War against Iran enters second month", (World, March 29).

Amongst all the various reasons being bandied around for the outbreak of this crisis, including Iran supporting terror organisations and building a nuclear bomb and delivery systems, all of which carry an element of truth, the real reason is that Israel has been bullied mercilessly for 40 years and has been restrained by the USA from fighting back.

It's rather like the kid in the school yard asking his dad to come and help him sort out his bullies. The "dads" in question, more recently Biden and Obama, have always said "no son, it will just make it worse!" .. Well, Israel has now found a "dad" in the form of Donald Trump, who has no such restraints and who has piled into the schoolyard with the Israelis, who in turn are gleefully handing out revenge for all those years of bullying.

Has it made things worse?

Possibly, only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: It will only end when the Israelis' thirst for revenge has been assuaged and not before. In the meantime, the rest of us must suffer from this childish brawl.
