Manhunt goes on for MP shooting suspects

Police are hunting two remaining suspects following the arrest of a father and son over the March 20 shooting attack on Narathiwat MP Kamonsak Leewamoh, as the investigation widens.

Authorities said the two suspects, a 57-year-old former marine officer and his 24-year-old son, were arrested late on Sunday while driving from Hat Yai into Bacho district.

They were identified as Somporn Langdech and Yosakorn Langdech. Both have denied any involvement.

They are among four individuals named in arrest warrants issued under an emergency decree for their alleged involvement in the attack. Officers seized an 11mm handgun, ammunition and mobile phones during the arrest.

Investigators believe four people were inside the pickup truck during the attack. The two remaining suspects, identified as a 24-year-old man and a 41-year-old accomplice, are still on the run.

The attack occurred outside the MP's home in Bacho district when a group of gunmen travelling in a white four-door pickup truck opened fire with M16 rifles on his black Toyota vehicle as he returned from Hat Yai airport.

Two people were seriously injured: the driver, 55, and a 43-year-old police officer assigned as his escort.

Police said 32 spent M16 shell casings were recovered from the scene, and preliminary checks found the weapon used had not previously been linked to insurgency-related incidents in the southern border provinces.

Authorities have not yet established a clear motive.
