SAMUT PRAKAN – A cement mixer truck crashed through the barrier of a U-turn bridge and plunged onto the Bangna-Trat Highway (Theparat Road) on Friday afternoon, blocking two lanes of traffic and leaving its driver critically injured.
The accident occurred at around 3pm at kilometre 31 of the highway in tambon Ban Rakat. Police from the Bang Bo station and rescue workers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation and Bang Bo Hospital responded to the scene.
The white-and-red Hino ten-wheel cement mixer, registered in Bangkok, was found badly mangled and blocking two lanes after falling from a the U-turn bridge on the Chon Buri-bound side of the road. All traffic in the area was closed following the incident.
The driver, identified only as Jom, 61, was found ejected from the vehicle with critical injuries. He was given first aid before being transferred to Bang Bo Hospital.
A red Toyota Yaris, which was travelling in the left lane at the time, sustained front-end damage after debris and a drum from the falling truck struck it. The motorist told investigators he saw something falling from above before the truck crashed down in front of him.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
