The government is preparing urgent economic and policy measures ahead of its parliamentary statement, aiming to boost growth, ease living costs and steer Thailand out of the middle income trap.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will deliver his policy statement to parliament during the session on April 9–10. Central to the government's agenda is an inclusive economic policy focused on expanding opportunities for all segments of society.
Particular emphasis will be placed on smaller economic actors, including students, the elderly, community enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with the aim of generating employment and fostering entrepreneurship.
A second pillar involves restructuring the economy to ensure sustainable and competitive growth, strengthening its potential to escape the middle income trap by enhancing existing industries while developing new key growth engines.
Priority sectors include digital technology and artificial intelligence, robotics, semiconductors, high-value food processing, clean energy, biotechnology, next-generation automotive industries and advanced healthcare.
On trade, the administration has pledged to better integrate Thailand into the global economy while forging stronger partnerships. Measures will include the development of national digital trade platforms and stricter controls on imports that do not generate domestic value.
At the same time, SMEs will be encouraged to join both domestic and international supply chains, with improved access to intellectual property registration.
Agricultural policy will shift from traditional farming towards precision, resilient and sustainable practices. The government aims to increase value creation across the entire supply chain in order to raise farmers' incomes and improve quality of life.
Tourism policy will prioritise value over volume to position Thailand as a leading regional destination while focusing on higher-quality offerings and sustainable growth.
In foreign affairs and national security, the government aims to boost Thailand's global role, support multilateralism, expand economic diplomacy and secure membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development by 2030.
Ahead of the special cabinet session, the new government will formally take office following a swearing-in ceremony before His Majesty the King on Monday in Dusit Palace. A preliminary cabinet meeting will be held this evening to approve the policy statement.
Sources said after the policy statement session, the cabinet will on Saturday consider some immediate financial measures to ease the burden on vulnerable groups.
The cabinet is also expected to consider emergency borrowing measures to stabilise the Oil Fuel Fund, alongside a restructuring of domestic energy pricing.
