A 60-year-old who suffered a serious head injury when he stumbled into a lamp post while walking home drunk later jokingly insisted he would report the pole to police for “failing to get out of the way”.

The incident, in Chachoengsao province, was initially reported to Bang Pakong police as a motorcyclist colliding with a utility pole around 4am near a residence in moo 4, tambon Bang Kluea.

Police and rescuers were promptly ordered to the scene.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found 60-year-old Wutthichai lying in the street outside a wooden house suffering from a head wound and significant blood loss. He was heavily intoxicated. But there was no motorcycle.

Mr Wutthichai told police he had been drinking with friends inside the house before attempting to walk home. However, due to his advanced state of intoxication he lost his balance and fell down, striking his head against a passing lamppost.

Despite the injury, he managed to make his way back to the front of the residence, where he lay down and called for help from the homeowner.

In remarks that amused those in attendance, Mr Wutthichai reportedly said he intended to file a complaint with police. He said the lamppost had failed to move aside and had caused him to sustain the injury.

Rescuers gave him first aid and then took him to Bang Pakong Hospital for further treatment.
