Drivers using three main roads, including the major highway  linking Bangkok and southern provinces, are warned of possible surface flooding due to high tides from Monday to Thursday.

The Office of National Water Resources said high tides could disrupt traffic on three roads  - Rama 2, Suksawat and Sukhumvit. A southeasternly storm in the Gulf of Thailand would further raise the coastal sea level and inundate areas near river mouths.

Coastal areas likely to be affected are in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkram, Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani.

The office did not specify which sections of the three roads would be affected.

However, records show the section of Rama 2 Road between kilometre markers 39 and 40 in Muang district in Samut Sakhon is prone to flooding during high tides. The road is the main land route linking the capital and the southern region, including the resort towns of Hua Hin and Cha-am.
