Sadao border crossing to Malaysia to open

The new Sadao Customs checkpoint in Songkhla is expected to officially open on July 10 after infrastructure works and key legal procedures are completed, paving the way for expanded trade, tourism and cross-border connectivity between Thailand and Malaysia.

Senior officials in Thailand's South recently inspected preparations for the opening ahead of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's expected visit, during which he is due to jointly preside over the opening ceremony with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Lt Gen Norathip Poinok, Fourth Army Area commander, joined Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) secretary-general Piyasiri Wattanawarangkool and Songkhla governor Rathasat Chitchu in Sadao district to review readiness for the checkpoint's launch and the prime minister's visit.

The meeting, attended by local administrators, military and police officers, and representatives of relevant agencies, focused on operational readiness, security, traffic management and arrangements for the official opening.

Officials said Mr Anutin is scheduled to visit Malaysia on July 9 for talks with Mr Anwar on several issues.
