KHON KAEN - An electric vehicle caught fire while being charged and flames expanded to the owner’s house on Tuesday morning in Muang district of this northeastern province.

The fire broke out at house number 9/2109 in tambon Muang Kao at 6am, and firefighters needed about an hour to put out the blaze. Police arrived to see a badly burnt BYD Dolphin sedan in the driveway in front of the heavily damaged house.

Owner Setthaphat Kaewfainok, 46, said that before the fire, he had parked his car and plugged a recharging cord into the vehicle. Later he heard the sounds of fire erupting. Other dwellers rushed out of the house to check out the sound and saw the car was on fire.

Mr Setthaphat called firefighters and together with three other residents fled the house which was then engulfed in flames.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
