Red Line railway services suspended

Services on the suburban Red Line commuter railway were temporarily suspended on Saturday evening after an electrical system failure affected its signalling system.

The disruption occurred at around 4pm, according to the operator, State Railway of Thailand Electrified Train Co (SRTET).

Engineers and specialists were sent to investigate and found that a failure in the electrical system had affected the signalling system, prompting the temporary suspension of services across all 13 stations to allow repairs to be carried out.

The suspension affected both the Dark Red and Light Red lines, between Krung Thep Aphiwat Station and Rangsit, and between Krung Thep Aphiwat and Taling Chan, respectively.

Officials were conducting detailed safety checks on the rail system before services could resume, the company said.

The two lines carry a combined average of 30,000 to 42,000 passengers per day, depending on weekday peaks and promotions. The Dark Red Line accounts for the vast majority of trips.
