A 37-year-old man wanted in China for alleged links to a transnational crime syndicate and money laundering has been arrested in Bangkok.

Immigration police detained "Mr Wu" at a luxury house in the Ramkhamhaeng area on Friday, after tracing him using Interpol data, police said.

According to Chinese authorities, the suspect handled cryptocurrency and foreign currency exchanges for criminal networks, using more than 133 accounts with transactions worth over 500 million yuan, about 2 billion baht. He is also accused of arranging visas for members of transnational crime groups.

Thai investigators said he used forged accommodation documents and changed his vehicle's number plates and colour to evade detection.

His visa expired about three years and eight months ago. He faces an overstay charge before deportation to China to face charges there.
