AYUTTHAYA - A tugboat capsized in turbulent waters where the Pasak and Chao Phraya rivers meet in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district on Sunday afternoon. The boatman survived.

The incident happened in front of Wat Phananchoeng about 1.30pm when many tugboats were operated simultaneously, towing barges from the Pasak River to the Chao Phraya River. The location is accident-prone when both rivers are high during the wet season.

The 62-year-old tug driver survived. He surfaced in the river seconds after his boat sank and was able to remain afloat until rescued. He sustained a broken arm.
