The first phase of the security fence at the Thai-Cambodian border is finished, while the next phases are progressing, according to local security units.

Local police and Marine Corps units on Saturday inspected the fence in Thep Nimit sub-district, Chanthaburi province, after the first phase of a 1.3km section was declared complete.

The second phase stretching 3.4km and the third phase of 3.6km are now under construction, with the second phase reaching about 70% progress.

Construction of a bridge over the canal is expected in the third phase.

Security officials said the main purposes of the security fence are to take preventive measures and to crack down on illegal activities along the border, especially the transportation of all kinds of illegal goods across the border.
