Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is among 10 inmates approved at the prison level for parole review, with a possible release under electronic monitoring in May.
A source at the Justice Ministry indicated the Central Klong Prem Prison committee has endorsed a shortlist of eligible inmates, including Thaksin.
"The committee has completed its review and agreed that all 10 names meet the criteria for parole consideration," the source said. The list will now be forwarded to the Department of Corrections for further scrutiny.
Thaksin, who is serving a one-year sentence, has been in custody for more than six months and is expected to meet the two-thirds threshold required for parole in May.
"Factors such as age, health, conduct during detention and the suitability of the supervision environment will be taken into account," the source said.
If the process proceeds without delay, he could be released on May 11 and placed under probation for a further four months until completing his sentence.
