People's Party (PP) leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut on Monday urged the government to act swiftly on three critical political and legislative matters this week, warning that delays could undermine public trust and derail key reforms.
In a statement, Mr Natthaphong said the cabinet must use its final opportunity on Thursday to reaffirm two constitutional amendment drafts concerning Chapter 15/1 and return them to parliament for reconsideration.
The drafts, proposed separately by the PP and the Bhumjaithai Party, lapsed after the cabinet declined to endorse amendments to Section 256, triggering Section 147 and forcing the legislative process to restart.
He said the decision would demonstrate whether the government is genuinely committed to constitutional reform following the Feb 8 referendum.
Second, he called on the Labour Ministry to urgently issue a ministerial regulation endorsing the CARE (Career Average Revalued Earnings) formula for calculating old-age pensions under the Social Security Fund.
Although Labour Minister Julapun Amornvivat agreed in principle to expedite the matter on April 23, no visible progress has been made, leaving millions of insured workers waiting, Mr Natthaphong said.
Third, he warned seven bills proposed by the PP in the previous parliament will automatically expire unless the cabinet confirms them on Tuesday.
The bills include the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) bill, Factory Act amendments, an amnesty bill for forest reclamation cases, labour protection reforms, military court reforms and two education bills.
Separately, the PP leader also addressed complaints from farmers over fertiliser shortages, excessive prices and falling crop incomes.
