The Election Commission (EC) has decided to petition the Appeals Court to revoke the election rights of a Mukdahan MP from the Klatham Party over improper involvement in campaigning for a provincial administrative organisation (PAO) election, while also seeking a new provincial chief election.
Pol Sub Lt Sutthian Thongsom, president of the Rak Mukdahan civic group, said on Tuesday he had received a letter from the Mukdahan provincial election office informing him of the EC's ruling regarding an investigation into Veerapong Thongpha, candidate No. 5 in the Mukdahan PAO chief election, and three associates.
Mr Veerapong serves as president of the Mukdahan PAO. He and his associates had been accused of conduct potentially violating Section 65(1) of the Local Council Members and Local Administrators Election Act and its amendments.
Th EC reviewed the probe on March 31 and dismissed complaints in Issues 1 and 3-13.
On Issue 2, it resolved to submit a petition to the Appeals Court seeking the revocation of the candidacy and voting rights of Traisornakom Nongrueang, while at the same time calling for a new election for the Mukdahan PAO chief and criminal proceedings against those involved. The EC is preparing its formal ruling, said Pol Sub Lt Sutthian.
