10 ways to explore sustainability at SX2026

How closely is sustainability connected to our daily lives? The answer lies in the air we breathe, the food we eat, our family's health and how we prepare for heavy rainfall and flooding. Environmental protection, urban resilience and quality of life are increasingly interconnected.

Sustainability Expo 2026 (SX2026) brings these issues closer to the public through exhibitions, talks, workshops, markets and interactive activities over 10 days. Under the theme "Resilience in Action", the event offers experiences for all ages. Here are 10 highlights to explore.

Disaster preparedness: Learning from international experience

With flooding and wildfires posing growing challenges, the International Pavilion showcases technologies and approaches to disaster preparedness. Japan presents satellite technology for wildfire monitoring, alongside cooperation with the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) and the Mae Fah Luang Foundation. France highlights water management and urban planning for flood-risk assessment, while the Netherlands, Sweden and China showcase innovations in resource management, energy and quality of life.

Nature and immersive experiences: Seeing the world differently

At PROLOGUE, large-screen presentations and National Geographic stories take visitors through snowy landscapes, the world of bees and tropical rainforests. The ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity offers activities exploring forests, native trees and biodiversity.

Visitors can also experience a melting iceberg simulation and the FLOODING ZONE, which recreates a city submerged by rising water. The Sensory Booth provides simulated experiences highlighting the challenges faced by people with visual and hearing impairments, promoting greater understanding of accessibility and inclusion.

Art and photography: Creative perspectives on resilience

Art highlights include photographs taken by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, works from the White Elephant Art Award and photographs presented by the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand under the theme "Resilience in Action", alongside entries from the SX ASEAN Photo Contest.

The Thai River Series by National Geographic Thailand and the Trash to Treasure exhibition further explore how photography, materials and creative design can communicate environmental issues.

Shopping: Supporting local communities

Located in Halls 7-8, SX MARKETPLACE brings together more than 230 vendors under the concept "GEO-LOCAL MARKET:ภู-มิ วิถีถิ่นไทย". Products range from local handicrafts to environmentally conscious designs. Highlights include Hugely, which transforms discarded fire hoses into bags; KORKOK, which makes bags from sedge grass; and Cornny cat litter, made from corn cobs. Visitors can also explore agricultural products, plants and health products.

Food: Discovering sustainability one dish at a time

SX FOOD FEST features more than 18 chefs presenting special dishes using local ingredients and responsible sourcing. Highlights include Chef Citron's Thai vegetable salad with watermeal and Chef Tukta's snakehead fish hor mok featuring ingredients from three provinces.

The food zone also features 11 restaurants from The Spoon: Golden Spoon programme, vendors from WIN WIN WAR and local favourites such as freshly made Tham Suea palm sugar rolls. Health-conscious options include organic chicken and eggs, egg-white protein noodles and bakery products made with unrefined flour and local grains.

After eating, visitors can separate their rubbish at the WASTE STATION. OKLIN returns for the fourth consecutive year to support food waste management.

Technology: Understanding AI in everyday life

A highlight of the discussion programme is "AI and the New Generation: A Shortcut to Intelligence or a Killer of Thinking Skills?" featuring Assoc Prof Dr Suriyadeo Tripathi and Asst Prof Dr Jiraporn Arunakul, founder of the parenting page Liang Look Nok Baan. The session explores AI's influence on children's learning and development and how technology can be used without compromising independent thinking.

It takes place on November 8, from 6pm to 7pm, at SX TALK STAGE, G Floor.

Health and longevity: Exploring smarter ways to stay well

Visitors interested in longevity can discover Mirror Pad and VITALS AI, which demonstrate the use of AI to analyse preliminary information from facial features. Other innovations include smart water bottles that track hydration and smart rings that monitor sleep and stress-related data.

Health discussions organised by the Thai Red Cross Society and the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, cover topics including cancer awareness and healthy sleep.

Family activities: Learning through play

SX KIDS ZONE invites children to explore "From Land to Sea" through activities that develop observation and problem-solving skills. Highlights include WONDERS OF OUR BLUE SPACE BY CRYSTAL, exploring marine life; the Learning Playground and Young Experimenters Stage, featuring workshops and science experiments; and ANT WORLD, introducing children to the teamwork and adaptability of ants.

Children can also enjoy chess and games at the Kids Arena or experience entrepreneurship at the Young Entrepreneurs Kids Market, featuring more than 18 vendors.

Hands-on sustainability: Turning ideas into action

SX IDEA LAB and SX TALK STAGE offer workshops and discussions led by specialists. On November 9, illustrator Phattrida Prasarnthong, known as Paeng, leads "UPCYCLING PLAY: Turning Bottle Caps and Sponges into Cute Creations", from 11am to 12.30pm at SX IDEA LAB. Participation is free.

Later that day, from 5pm to 6pm, "Decoding Three Models of Resilient Cities" brings together Pornprom Vikitsreth, Suradej Taweesaengsakulthai and Chaiyong Ratanangkoon to share urban development insights.
