OIC secretary-general takes government policies to Udon Thani

Chuchat Pramoonpol, secretary-general of the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), accompanied by Apakorn Panlert, deputy secretary-general for insurance business supervision, visited Udon Thani province.

The visit coincided with a regional trip by Ekniti Nitithanprapas, deputy prime minister and finance minister, together with Lavaron Sangsnit, permanent secretary for finance, and senior executives from the Ministry of Finance, to deliver policy guidance and monitor the performance of agencies under the ministry.

The delegation was welcomed by executives from the Udon Thani Provincial Finance Office, the senior regional director of OIC Region 3 (Khon Kaen) and the director of the OIC Udon Thani Provincial Office. The visit included the BAAC Customer Marketing Agricultural Cooperative of Udon Thani Co-operative Limited (SKT) and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), Tha Tum branch, in Udon Thani.

The OIC secretary-general said the visit provided an opportunity to integrate insurance-related activities into the implementation of the government's economic policies. The insurance system plays an important role in risk management and in reducing the financial impact of unforeseen events, including natural disasters, accidents and occupational risks.

The OIC is therefore committed to widening access to insurance for all groups of the population, while improving public awareness and understanding of insurance benefits and coverage. This will enable people to use insurance as a risk-management tool to protect themselves and their families, while contributing to the country's long-term economic resilience.

On this occasion, the OIC also organised an exhibition booth to promote its insurance-related work, with an emphasis on raising public awareness of the importance of insurance as a means of managing risks and securing financial stability.

Key activities included promoting the National Disaster Insurance Scheme, a major government policy designed to provide coverage for approximately 30 million households nationwide, with the government subsidising the insurance premiums. The coverage period runs from Oct 1, 2026, to Oct 1, 2027, and includes three types of natural disasters: floods, storms and earthquakes.
