A 700-kilogramme albino buffalo has become an unlikely social media sensation in Bangladesh after being nicknamed “Donald Trump” for its golden-coloured head hair and pale pink colouring.
Visitors have been flocking to the Rabeya Agro Farm in the Paikpara area of Narayanganj, just southeast of Dhaka, to photograph and touch what farm staff describe as a calm and gentle creature.
Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha said he purchased the buffalo from a cattle market in Rajshahi about 10 months ago. The name came from his younger brother.
“My younger brother jokingly named it Donald Trump after seeing the hair on its head,” he said.
The buffalo has attracted a lot of attention ahead of Eid al-Adha, which falls on May 27, when Muslims traditionally sacrifice livestock. Mridha said the animal had already been sold at 550 taka (US$4.50) per kilogramme and would be delivered to its new owner the following week.
Visitors who made the trip to the farm after seeing videos circulating online said the likeness held up in person.
“It really does look like Trump. Its face and hair resemble him closely,” said a local resident named Russell. Another visitor said she had initially doubted the comparison but changed her mind on arrival. “After seeing it in person, it actually looks like Trump. The name suits it well,” she said.
Farm caretaker Kawser said the buffalo receives four baths a day and is fed corn, oil cake, bran, rice husks and grass.
Rabeya Agro Farm has prepared around 200 cattle for Eid al-Adha this year, with nearly all of them booked and deliveries set to begin soon.
