When fake missions spiral beyond control

Netflix is going big with Overacting, an over-the-top comedy that cranks chaos up to 11, in true Thai fashion.

Directed by Prueksa Amaruji and produced by Rergchai Poungpetch, the duo behind hit comedy phenomena Bikeman and Riam Fighting Angel, Overacting, which debuts on Nov 5, is a full-throttle, roller-coaster ride from start to finish, following a struggling actress and her ride-or-die gang who go to ridiculous lengths, literally staging fake crimes, to keep her retired cop father living his best action-hero life.

Overacting isn't just a title. It's the whole philosophy. Every performance, every fight scene and every gasp-worthy stunt is backed by a production scale big enough to make the comedy hit harder and the action look genuinely jaw-dropping. Inspired by the glorious excess of Bollywood cinema, equal parts homage and blueprint, the film fuses that larger-than-life energy with unmistakably Thai comedic charm, channelling the nostalgic spirit of classic Thai advertising in every meticulously over-designed frame.

Leading the charge is Terd "Teng" Terng as Winai, a legendary retired crime-buster once known as Inspector Winai the Devastator, until his memory started slipping back to his glory days and convinced him he's still got one last score to settle with his elusive old rival.

Comedy icon Teng shared his impressions on filming, calling it one of the most dedicated and challenging comedic acting experiences of his career. For him, playing Inspector Winai meant diving headfirst into massive scale, elaborate wirework, and extravagant combat moves. “From the very first day I walked onto the set, I was blown away. The production team built an Indian-inspired market set so elaborate, it felt like a world of its own. Seeing a production of this magnitude, I knew I had to give it my absolute all, from high-flying wirework to full-on overacting. I even asked the director to set the wire rig higher for maximum impact. Everyone in the cast gave 100% because we were all inspired by a team putting so much heart into the craft.”

Enter Maylada "Bow" Susri as Woranuch, his daughter and a former child star still chasing her big break, who rallies her trio of friends, played by Thank Afteryum, Teerawat "Dutdew" Budtaya and Lattapon "Jinajames" Rujirojjindakul to build an entire fake police station, complete with fake crimes, to help her dad fulfil his unfinished dream.

Bow Maylada Susri, who plays Woranuch, Winai’s devoted daughter, revealed that her character in this comedy stands apart from any comedic role she’s taken on before. “Even though Overacting is a full-fledged comedy, my role comes from a deeply serious, heartfelt place. She is on a mission to do whatever it takes, no matter how dramatic or extreme, to bring happiness to her father whose memory is fading. Her comedy stems from going to outrageous lengths out of pure love for her family.”

Along for the ride is Kong Huayrai as Sergeant Toy, Woranuch's easygoing ex and a traffic cop who gets pulled headfirst into the madness, alongside Joke So Cool as Sua Hao, Winai's real, actual arch-nemesis, whose reckless comeback turns a harmless white lie into an all-out, can't-make-this-up crime spree.

Beyond its fearless commitment to going big, Overacting blends sharp comedy, action-packed showdown, and genuine warmth into one full-flavoured comedy experience.

Director Prueksa said that just seeing the cast’s faces together is already a guarantee of laughs. “Our top priority was finding actors with natural comedic instincts loved by the Thai public, but giving them something totally new to do,” said Prueksa. “From Teng playing a full-on dad cop, to Bow in a provincial girl look, Joke as an aged-up yet endlessly cheeky villain, and Kong Huayrai playing a hilarious traffic cop, bringing their unique styles of humour together created an effortless, perfectly balanced chemistry.”

At the centre is Winai, a legendary retired tough cop whose slipping memories send him back to his glory days and an unfinished grudge against his elusive arch-nemesis, Sua Hao. Desperate to protect her father, his daughter Woranuch, a struggling actress, rallies her traffic-cop ex-flame Sergeant Toy and her gang of friends, Xing, Khe and Bo, to stage over-the-top fake crime-busting missions.

However, their fake missions spiral into hilarious, action-packed chaos as the gang must dodge the real police, Padej (Prakasit "Punk" Bosuvarn) and Inspector Pao (Suppachai "Jdum" Hanumas), who are keeping a close eye on the situation, all while the real Sua Hao resurfaces to commit actual crimes once again.

Forget reality, and prepare for an explosion of comedy and non-stop laughter.
