La Petite Maison to open Bangkok pop-up

Household restaurant brand La Petite Maison (LPM) is set to open a pop-up outpost from June 1 to July 31 at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, occupying the space that once belonged to Biscotti.

Bangkok will soon join the ranks of 10 other cities — from Dubai to Hong Kong — that have LPM to call their own. Founded in London in 2007, the 11th branch of LPM will bring its “je ne sais quoi” of Côte d’Azur to la Thaïlande. Expect classy dining ambience with playful decor, buzzing with conversations, utensil clink-clank, jovial service and several rounds of Tomatini.

La Petite Maison Bangkok aims to serve a visual feast through its aesthetics inspired by Belle Époque (Beautiful Age), a period of French and European history characterised by optimism, peace and prosperity, and an actual feast through the shortlisted menu.

Guru By Bangkok Post was invited to try some of their signature dishes at LPM in Hong Kong for a taste of what would be available at LPM Bangkok. All dishes mentioned below will be available on La Petite Maison Bangkok's menu.

Before every meal, guests are invited to slice pristine-looking tomatoes, season them with lemon juice, olive oil and salt and pepper and enjoy to awaken their appetite.

I'm confident that Snails with garlic butter and parsley would be a big hit with Bangkok patrons. This is a starter so delicious you want to mop up its last drops with good bread.

For Warm prawns with olive oil and lemon juice, halves of prawns are neatly arranged in a borjgali symbol, standing out in orange against the liquid gold. The natural sweetness of prawns and zesty lemon juice offers a delicious duet.

Uni fans should be very pleased with decadent-looking Homemade tagliolini pasta with lemon and sea urchin. Al dente sensation paired with melting creaminess. What's not to like?

Order Lobster risotto with Thai basil and caviar, LPM Bangkok's exclusive dish, if you want to make everyone at the table take their phones out (and possibly go "ooh"). A whole lobster is neatly placed on a bed of aromatic orange risotto, with its succulent claw meat and body ready to be savoured. Caviar atop its head is icing on the cake to this already showy dish.

Marinated baby chicken impresses with crispy skin and juicy flesh.

Gaminess of lamb is practically gone in Marinated lamb cutlets with olive, aubergine caviar and pine nuts. These beautifully charred lamb lollipops simply burst with flavours.

There are several side dishes you can choose but Broccolinis with chilli and ginger stand out as a healthy choice with satisfying crunches.

Save some room for a joie de vivre end with either French toast with spice ice cream or Vanilla cheesecake with berry compote (or both). The former provides a delectable contract between spice ice cream with honeycomb toffee on top and a sweet and milky toast with a layer of caramelised sugar. The latter looks simple, but the cheesecake part, which goes great with berry compote, is so thick in proportion to the slender crust.

To truly complete an LPM experience, wash them down with a Tomatini or two. The "liquid summer" was originally created in 2010 by mixologist Jimmy Barrat for LPM in Dubai.

La Petite Maison Bangkok will open for two months for lunch and dinner on the ground floor of Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel. Bring a big appetite (and wallet).
