Thaksin prophecy
Re: " '14th floor saga' paints a bad picture", (Opinion, May 5) & Thaksin probe welcome", (Editorial, May 1).
Hello followers, this is me, The Soothsayer, and I have another sooth to say.
It appears that he who wants to see his name in the paper on a daily basis -- and I am not referring to Eric Bahrt or Michael Setter -- is getting himself into another pickle. Finally, his lifestyle while "in prison" is catching up to him. It's not easy to be a VIP prisoner anymore.
So, with the ongoing investigations in process, I have this sooth to say. Shortly, just before the axe falls, he will suddenly develop a life-threatening illness which cannot be treated here in Thailand, and the only doctors that can treat him will be in a country with no extradition agreements with Thailand.
There, he will remain -- being treated of course -- for an indefinite amount of time and will have to have his proxy run the country.

Gaza genocide myth
In the past week, the Bangkok Post published three letters in PostBag categorically related to the allegation that Israel is committing atrocities and "genocide" in Gaza. Some shedding of light on this topic seems necessary. Genocide is defined as "the deliberate killing of people from a nation or group with the aim of destroying that group".
Now consider the next points. Was the handover of Gaza in 2005 to the Palestinians, forcefully removing the Israeli settlers, a plot to exterminate the Palestinians, or was this an Israeli effort to make peace with the Palestinians? Are the Palestinians living in Israel deliberately and systematically being killed? Ask the Palestinians living in Israel peacefully beside the Israelis how they experience their life. They will praise their living conditions.
The war could be finished the moment the Hamas leaders living in luxury abroad release all hostages and change their charter!! Indeed, atrocities against Israelis are happening likewise on the Hamas side. However, atrocities don't equal genocide.

China apologism
Re: "Jets can't fix trade", (PostBag, May 3).
ML Saksiri Kridakorn, apologist of the Communist Party of China, had this to say (presumably about the US): "Better we should remember the history of great empires; they are often most dangerous in their final throes when they are willing to weaponise anything to hold onto power."
It is clear that he prefers being spoon-fed the Communist Party of China's propaganda. It may be a surprise to learn that unrest and economic malaise in China have reached levels not seen since the 1989 Tiananmen Square bloody protests. Young people are crying out for personal freedom amid mounting corruption and repression. Xi Jinping has been conducting a major purge of top military officials, some of whom have disappeared or been incarcerated. The above news is very well documented by independent sources within China and can be verified by anyone with an interest in these important developments.
Contrary to what ML Kridakorn would suggest, the US is conducting a major rebalancing of trade and a concomitant reform of international institutional structures in a manner which reflects US national interests. This is not an "empire in its final throes" by any stretch of the imagination.
