CHANTHABURI — Navy police arrested two people found in possession of 64 mobile phones believed used by scam gangs, in Pong Nam Ron district on Monday.

The Royal Thai Navy announced the arrests on Tuesday.

The two suspects were arrested at a location on Highway 3193 in tambon Khlong Yai on Monday. Others fled the scene.

The officers seized 64 phones and information about an appointment to hand them over to another party, and 100,000 baht in cash.

The seized devices were bundled with written notations about bank accounts and passcodes indicating they were used for mule accounts operated on behalf of cyber scam and online gambling gangs based in a "neighbouring country".

The phones were likely smuggled into Thailand to be delivered to someone in Si Racha district of Chon Buri, the navy announcement said.

The two suspects allegedly admitted being paid 10,000 baht. They were not named.
