Many buildings around Bangkok and surrounding areas are offering free parking for people affected by flooding, including park-and-ride facilities at train stations and garages at shopping malls.
The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) announced on Saturday that motorists can park their cars and motorcycles at the following facilities:
- MRT Blue Line: Lat Phrao and Lak Song stations (two buildings)
- MRT Purple Line: Khlong Bang Phai, Sam Yaek Bang Yai, Bang Rak Noi Tha It and Yaek Nonthaburi 1 stations
- MRT Pink Line: Min Buri station
- MRT Yellow Line: Si Iam station
- MRT Orange Line: Khlong Ban Ma station
- BTS Green Line: Khu Khot and Kor Por Aor stations.
Vehicles can be parked at the facilities from Saturday and must be removed by Oct 2. Any changes will be announced through the public relations channels of each line.
Users are asked to follow staff instructions and park only in designated areas. They must also present photographic evidence and proof of vehicle ownership to staff at the parking facility.
Central Pattana, the operator of Central shopping malls, is also offering parking spaces at all 40 of its branches nationwide.
The initiative will help ease concerns while the situation remains unresolved, the company said.
People can contact individual Central branches for details about parking arrangements and available spaces. Central Pattana said it would closely monitor the situation and adjust its assistance to suit conditions in each area.
Central also said its malls nationwide would continue to operate as normal, allowing people to access essential goods and supplies.
Free parking is also available at The Mall Lifestore branches and The Mall Korat until Sunday. Vehicles must register by presenting a copy of the owner’s national ID card and vehicle registration. Parking is allowed on designated floors, and vehicles may only be collected by the person who registered them.
