Nothing brings Phone (4a) and Headphone (a) to Thailand

London-based tech brand Nothing has officially landed in Thailand with the launch of the Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (4a) and its stylish over‑ear headphones, the Headphone (a), promising premium features at prices that do not require a deep breath or a long chat with your loved ones.

The new line-up blends bold design, advanced cameras and on-device artificial intelligence (AI), all wrapped in the company’s “Built Different” philosophy — another way of saying it does not resemble every other smartphones commonly seen on Bangkok's BTS and MRT systems.

The Phone (4a) series doubles down on Nothing’s trademark transparent look, now louder, brighter and more unapologetic than before. The clear back panels are paired with striking colours and layered materials, making the phones look more like design objects than everyday gadgets. At the centre of the visual drama is the Glyph Matrix, a 137-point lighting system on the rear that flashes notifications, incoming calls and even music playback. It is part the phone's notification system, part light show — and possibly the most eye-catching thing on a café table.

Design remains a serious business for Nothing. The Phone (4a) Pro features an aluminium metal unibody just 7.95 millimetres thick and weighing 210 grammes, giving it a solid, premium feel without turning pockets into gym equipment. The standard Phone (4a) opts for a glass back with a polycarbonate frame, slightly thicker at around 8.5mm and weighing about 205g. In practical terms, both are slim, comfortable to hold and unlikely to drag your shorts down in the Thai heat.

Photography is where the Phone (4a) Pro aims to shine. It comes with a 50-megapixel Sony main sensor, a 50-megapixel periscope camera offering 3.5x optical zoom and up to 140x digital zoom, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 32-megapixel front camera. Backed by Nothing’s TrueLens Engine 4 and Ultra XDR, the camera system uses AI to balance light, shadow and detail, even when conditions are less than ideal. A new AI Preset feature lets users set the mood and tone of their photos before hitting the shutter, which may finally end arguments over who “ruined” the picture.

The Pro model also packs a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 5,000 nits — bright enough to survive Bangkok sunshine without squinting. It runs on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, making it more than capable of handling multitasking, photo editing and AI features without breaking a sweat.

The Phone (4a) focuses on value. It features a similar camera set-up, including a 50-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel periscope lens with up to 70x zoom, alongside an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel selfie shooter. Powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, it comes in 8GB or 12GB RAM variants, both with 256GB of storage. Its 6.78-inch AMOLED display offers 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 4,500 nits, while a 5,080mAh battery with 50W fast charging is designed to last a full day — even with heavy scrolling.

AI runs quietly in the background of both phones. Camera tools include AI Best Shot, which picks the best frame automatically; AI Erase, which removes unwanted objects; AI Cutout for isolating subjects; and AI Tone Sync for real-time colour and lighting adjustments. The aim is simple: better photos, less fiddling.

Beyond photography, Nothing introduces its Essential AI system to help with everyday tasks. Features include Essential Space for organising ideas and content, Essential Memory for recognising user habits, Essential Search for smart on-device queries, an Essential Key for quick AI access and Essential Recorder, which records and automatically summarises meetings. All processing happens on the device, prioritising speed and privacy — and sparing users from wondering where their data has gone.

Nothing is also making a statement in audio with the Headphone (a), its first over-ear headphones. The transparent design returns, this time framed in aluminium alloy with bold colour options. Memory foam ear cushions wrapped in PU leather are built for long listening sessions, while tactile physical controls allow users to manage music and calls without fumbling for their phone.

The Headphone (a) supports Hi-Res Audio, LDAC and USB-C lossless audio, as well as a 3.5mm jack for those who refuse to let go of cables. Adaptive active noise cancellation adjusts automatically to surroundings, while a transparency mode lets in outside sound when needed. Battery life is rated at up to 135 hours with ANC turned off — long enough to forget where you put the charging cable — and the headphones can connect to two devices at once.

In Thailand, the Phone (4a) Pro (12GB/256GB) is priced at 18,999 baht in white, black and pink. The Phone (4a) costs 16,999 baht for the 12GB/256GB version and 14,999 baht for the 8GB/256GB model, available in white, black, pink and blue. The Headphone (a) is priced at 5,999 baht, with a yellow limited edition expected later. All products go on sale from April 4.
